The 5th Gen makes use of steel jacketed rubber enclosed monoballs. Call them OEM Quiet Sphericals. They are excellent, durable and rarely fail, but they do fail.
These failure are not really common. the fix for the short shoulder is to replace it with a full shoulder bolt which we do on our in-house builds. It is also critical they be kept tight. A Life and Death check should be completed before every road course day and immediately following a track day. A Life and Death Check keeps you safe on the track and street. We cannot overstate how brutal driving on a road course is. It literally shakes cars apart over time.. We urge you to take the time to lay a wrench on every nut and bolt in the suspension and drive-line in your Life and Death Check. Go to any track event and you'll see almost every driver religiously checking their lug nuts with a torque wrench. That is as it should be, but don't all the bolts in your suspension and drive-line deserve the same respect and care?
